A Math Look Dyscalculia Therapy Program by Dyscalculia.org

A dyscalculia remediation program that uses money and a language-enhanced decimal place value chart to teach big-picture number concepts: counting, place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, fractions, negative and positive numbers, rounding, estimation, long division, trading up, and pre-algebra.

As much as possible, A Math Look resources are available for free onsite, but write-wipe charts and teaching money must be purchased to compensate designers and printers, and to honor copyrights and trademarks.

Karismath.com

A system of visual math lessons that teach basic math concepts through algebra, visually and intuitively. It was developed by dyscalculia expert and Harvard psychologist, Shad Moarif and his team of Universal Design for Learning Experts.

The approach takes learners through CLSO: Concepts presented visually, with emphasis on the Language of Mathematics, then the Symbols used to represent the ideas, and lastly, the Operations used to solve problems.

The program builds math fluency by firmly establishing understanding and reasoning abilities.

Shape Math (math without words) program

SHAPE MATH:  Grades K-5.  Learn math basics without memorization, using geometric shapes and logical patterns: addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, fractions, money, & time. Shape Math® is a revolutionary technique for doing written and mental math problems.  It uses a series of shapes that fit in logical patterns that make a geometric representation of the Base 10 number system.  It allows students to do mental problems into the hundreds, divide without times tables, and visually and conceptually understand abstract concepts.  Instead of thinking about how two numbers add together, the student thinks about how two numbers fit together.

Shape Math® was designed by Michael Cornell, a dyslexic who is also dyscalculic.

Edmentum (PLATO Software) for Schools for Grades K-8, Grades 6-12, and College and Homeschool  Grades 6 - 12.   Course Catalog.  Edmentum is an award-winning, online, education provider of multisensory, interactive modular courses and remedial solutions for K-12 & College.

Making Math Real (MMR) is a multisensory program developed by Dr. David Berg. Classes for educators are offered through the University of California - Berkley Extension.

The Making Math Real Institute offers training in Berg's Making Math Real Multisensory Structured Methodologies in K-12 Mathematics.

Courses:

All use hands-on methods for the acquisition, mastery, and application of mathematical knowledge. MMR curriculum is appropriate for K-12 through Calculus. Established in 1996. This training is primarily for educators.

ALEKS.COM Assessment and LEarning in Knowledge Spaces (ALEKS)  is a  Web-based, artificial intelligent assessment and learning system. ALEKS uses adaptive questioning to quickly and accurately determine exactly what a student knows and doesn't know in a course. ALEKS then iinstructs the student on the topics they're most ready to learn. ALEKS periodically reassesses the student to assure retention. ALEKS courses are complete in scope and avoid multiple-choice questions. ALEKS provides one-on-one instruction, 24/7, from virtually any Web-based computer for a fraction of the cost of a human tutor.

Read an overview of ALEKS.

*Note that students with severe dyscalculia have experienced frustration with ALEKS because retrieval disability interferes with performance on periodic review assessments. The pie gets reset and gains disappear. Poor intermittent and inconsistent retrieval of learned ideas is a hallmark of dyscalculia.

Dreambox Learning is a remedial math software program for elementary and middle school content. It uses adaptive instruction that assesses, prescribes, and ensures students experience success and mastery before introducing next topics in a common core curriculum (USA & Canada). iPad and Online. Schools & Individual Subscriptions. Award-winning. Data tracking & reporting.

Fun & Engaging. Free trial. $13/ to $10./ month for an individual subscription.

Has a great track record for quickly closing skill gaps.

MOVEMATICS   by Gloria Chun, uses dance, sound, and motion to teach basic number concepts.  Movematics allows children to access mathematics through dance movements. It is specifically designed for preschool and elementary school children, as well as students who may prefer more interactive alternatives to traditional teaching methods. Chapters are divided by mathematical concepts, starting from counting numbers and grouping shapes, detecting patterns, and performing simple arithmetic. Each section includes a dance video that introduces the concept, followed by practice problems.

Ages 8+

The Davis Math Mastery Program: Ages 8 +.  Developed by a dyslexic for dyslexics.

Usually completed in five days. Does not use manipulatives, memorization tricks, flashcards, or repetition. Rationale: Visual-spatial thinkers are easily confused by the "words" that describe math functions and experience regular disorientation of perception that impedes their ability to grasp concepts of time and sequence, and thus order vs. disorder. The Davis Method develops one's control of disorientation and sense of time and sequence, enabling the student to "see" math functions and easily learn and understand math.

*Dyscalculic students usually LACK the ability to visually imagine and mentally manipulate numbers, images, and quantitative ideas. The Davis Method is appropriate for dyslexics, but may not succeed with dyscalculics.
